Starting with the chartering line Critical Mass, the nine Pearls did not only pave the way for African-American students on the campus, but changed the culture of then Georgia Southern College. Since the 1980 chartering, the Xi Tau Chapter has not only excelled within the campus community, but around the world. On Saturday July 12, 1980, the 703rd House of Alpha was chartered and has been running the yard ever since. True to its form as the “first of firsts,” Alpha Phi Alpha has been interracial since 1945.įollowing the path outlined by the Cornell Seven, nine African American men known as our Pearls, made history on the campus of Georgia Southern University then known as Georgia Southern College.
